The 17th century Turkish traveller, Evliya Celebi, described embroidery as ‘the
craft of two hands’. Since those early years, generations of stitchers have kept
this ancient craft alive and today, in the 21st century the long tradition of
embroidery has been enriched with a new name: Lanarte.
In 1934 Guus and Emilie Vergnes’ small store, in Leeuwarden in The Netherlands,
quickly became synonymous with exclusive needlework kits. For decades Lanarte
has held a leading position in the craft sector. In the 1970s and 80s, Guus and
Emilie’s sons developed their exclusive needlework kits to be among the best
in Europe. The sale of the company to the Belgian group, Verachtert, in 2011
brought a new dynamic, creative thrust and further expansion. Today, Lanarte
launches 2 new collections per year, each inspired by the latest trends. Nearly
a century of excellence and quality is only possible if you are constantly seeking out new challenges; this is what makes Lanarte world class.
Today, Lanarte’s exclusivity is not only reflected in the use of the highest
quality materials, but also in its unique designs. Lanarte is proud of its collaboration with renowned artists, including the illustrator Marjolein Bastin,
together with its own Design Team, which guarantees the success of Lanarte’s
prestigious collections of highly detailed, timeless and stylish designs combined with striking images.
Working on a Lanarte kit is more than embroidery. It is enveloping yourself in a
centuries long tradition of art and craft .
